MY RESEARCH FINDINGS...

"Fructose is as damaging to the liver as ethanol, ethyl alcohol or in other words an alcoholic drink".
This was a quote I read on the dangers and health hazards of sugar. It was by Dr. Mercola and I read this line from his article posted online. I however read an article in the August issue of National Geographic on the same subject. I wanted check this for myself. I found this to be quite true.

I used Google search and found quite a bit of information as well as bing search engine.  I then went to Kent Library where I found quite a bit of information including the following information on fructos:

The HFCS (or high fructose corn syrup) method of it was first used in the 1970's when President Richard Nixon went to the USDA urging them to find whatever means necessary to bring down food costs. This was part of his "war on poverty" strategy. In 1975 HFCS was introduced.

I also found a lot of information on Dr. Robert Lustig, leading professor of pediatrics, and an obesity specialist at the University of California in San Francisco. He has quite an interesting article on YouTube called  "Is Sugar Toxic?"

When it came down to finding what I was looking for I found the most interesting research that I used in National Geographic magazine. However, I found tons of information at the library and my on-line searches were overwhelming.

Some of this definitely makes you think 'twice'  when you open that can of soda, or grab that donut!

ANALYSIS OF RHECTORIC OF TIM COLLINS

In the bus explosion of July 07, 2005 in a terrorist bus explosion Marie Fatayi-Williams lost her only son Anthony. Four days later following this she gave an historical speech employing for answers as to why.

In  the rhectoric anaylsis of this speech by Tim Collins he had the insight to see and feel her emotion and he used pathos in order to achieve the same effect of her audience so that they would "feel" the same remorse and pain as she did.

In paragraph three he definitly stresses the "genre" aspect of her speech relating to other past historical speechs.

In paragraph six he shows her use of ethos by reciting her words "What inspiration can senseless slaughter provide?'

I see that he has certainly did his research on her speech and words and efficiently broken ii down to illustrate the many methods of rhectoric as well as the use of contextual ties. His style is personal as he refers to hisself and his own speaking experiences and also analytical. It shows and reveals her raw passion in this speech.

My EN 100-740 Course Introduction

Hello my name is Vicki Burks.

I live in Campbell Mo where I lived as a child and went to school. Months after graduating in 1972, yes 41 years ago, I moved to Cape Girardeau where I really grew up, for at the age of 18 I was certainly not " grown up". In reflection of that I will and do call Cape Girardeau my hometown. I have recently moved back here after learning my mother has terminal lung cancer and to help her through her last stages of life.

After some consideration, I decided to try to obtain the degree I have always wanted but was never able to obtain due to obstacles and life just getting in the way, it seems. I am a CJ major where I someday hope to become a  behavioral counselor.

One of the greatest challenges that I have overcome is the ability to raise two daughters on my own after a bitter divorce and work two and sometimes three jobs at the same time and yet still manage to raise them with good morals and conduct and the knowledge that each new day was a new experience and the realization that I had unknown strengths that even I did not know of at the time.

I have the hope and goal that this class will teach me to be able to express my thoughts and words into a greater and better context and that I will acquire the ability to broaden my mind and reach new heights of an unknown horizon. I feel that this will enable me to become a more interesting conversationalist and listener and hopefully someday a reliable counselor.
